The “Lidia-2 Band” is a simple direct-conversion receiver (DCR) designed for listening to SSB and CW amateur radio stations. It was developed by Polish ham radio operator Wlodzimierz Salwa (SP5DDJ) specifically for beginners in the hobby.
This project is primarily aimed at novice shortwave listeners (SWLs) who may lack extensive experience in equipment construction. It is also an ideal "weekend project" for experienced hams looking for a relaxing build.
Specifications and Features
The receiver covers two amateur bands:
•    80 meters: 3500 kHz – 3800 kHz
•    40 meters: 7000 kHz – 7200 kHz
The heart of the circuit is the MC3361 (DA1) integrated circuit, typically used in dual-conversion FM receivers. While this simple design cannot compete with the performance of sophisticated commercial or high-end amateur transceivers, it is easy and enjoyable to assemble. Even with a few meters of random wire, it can start picking up stations. However, for optimal reception of CW and SSB signals on 40m and 80m, it is highly recommended to use a dipole or a Long-Wire antenna.
If you know someone interested in exploring the world of radio, this receiver makes an excellent and affordable gift.
